Baptism
Thank you for coming to the church to have your child baptized. There is no greater gift to give your child than to have them baptized. It is at your child’s baptism that your child will become a child of God and will become part of the Body of Christ.
When Baptisms Take Place
Baptism takes place in the church on the third weekend of the month after the 5:00pm Mass on Saturday or after 10:30am Mass on Sunday.
Preperation for the Sacrament
To arrange for the baptism of your child, contact the secretary at the parish office, at 763.684.0075. At that time, you will be asked for the information necessary to complete this sacrament. If this is your first child or if you have not attended baptism workshop within the past three years, you will be required to attend the workshop. The baptism preparation classes are held on the second Saturday of each month from 9:30am - 10:30am at the Faith and Education Center. To register or for more information, please call the parish secretary at 763.684.0075 ext. 100.
Godparents
Your child can either have one male or one female godparent, or one of each. The godparent must::
- be Catholic
- be 16 years old or older
- have received the sacraments of Baptism, Eucharist and Confirmation
- lead a life of faith and in be good standing with the Church
Witnesses
You may want to include other adult role models in your child's Baptism. Although they are not technically called a sponsor, they would still be considered a Christian Witness and would also take on the role of praying for the child and helping him or her grow spiritually. These witnesses can be of any christian denomination or gender. For example, if you wanted two Catholic males to be the Godparents of your child, only one would be the sponsor and the other would be considered the Christian Witness. If you wanted a Catholic and a Lutheran to be the Godparents, the Catholic would be considered the sponsor and the other would be a Christian Witness. If you need clarification, please bring it up at the Baptism class or talk to the Parish Secretary.
